Merle is a slob

Here's an example of my favorite format for gags, the vertical panel. Maybe I'm more comfortable with it because of all the drawings I did as a kid on drawing pads that are laid out this way. This gag is my homage to the sloppy bachelor, who sins away happily behind closed doors, or so he thought.

  1. so that's what those red stains are on the couch...
"Crochety Comics," eh? Whatever happened to "Nosebag?" I always thought that was a great title.
In fact, I still have a lot of those toons you did at CSULB, somewhere in my archives

  3. Jay, I liked the Nosebag title too, but I got tired of explaining to people what the name meant. Perhaps I'll post a few of those old relics to show people how lame I was when I started doing cartoon panels in college. Learning to be a cartoonist is hard work, folks! ... don't try it at home unless you have supervision!

  5. "Merle is a Slob" is such a great title, and not surprisingly that is one great little drawing! I'm so glad you're doing this... I've been yearning to indulge in that old Motorcyle Ted magic for well over a decade now.

  6. Funny, I almost changed that title, but now I'll keep it, since it's received your blessing. I'm thinking that I might do a series on old Merle, that would be a hoot. I could mine the heck out of that subject, I'll bet.

Thanks, Jim, for the compliment. I'm giddy!

  7. Hey Ted, once again I love the illustrations. I just think it would come off funnier if satan was sitting almost like right next to him and he finally noticed with a look. But I like the idea.

  8. Well, that's pretty much what is happening already, except that the devil is very relaxed and making himself at home on the couch as if he lives there, which I find funny. -Ted
