Halloween Buzz Kill

Remember those houses with our good health always in mind? ..so thoughtful.
I can't blame the guy above for handing out what he truly loves, but even little meat-eaters of the forest crave chocolate now and then.
Remember the dreaded popcorn ball? That was just a step above vegetables.
I wonder if I'd get soaped if I handed out brussel sprouts this Halloween?

  1. This is great, Ted! Been missing your wit. I LOVE the expressions on the cros and bear and the fact that the rabbit is so convinced about his "treats."

  2. I think they just keep chocolate for themselves and just offer the healthy food, they want to get rid of.
The expressions of croc and bear are great indeed!!

  3. Love this...Made I laugh!!!Thanks for the tip Ted!! The Spaniards (who blame the American Culture for Halloween BTW)like to send their kids out onto the streets for about four nights not just the one..1st night ok with sweets, the second night just about run out, third night nothing and then 4th its actually Halloween..nothing....But thanks to you Ted, I am going to open a can of peas this year (cos theres a lot of them) and hand them out!!:) One for you..one for you..half for you..pea skin for you!!

  4. Perfect! A total laugh out loud moment occurred over here. My mom dolled out 'ants on a log' one year. She wonders why I spent my 20s in therapy. My fav in this one is the little tike peeking out the window.

  6. Hey, thanks Mauricio, for always stopping by. I miss my wit sometimes too, especially when I'm not being witty :(

Thanks Kostis, and yeah, that's exactly the way I think. That lousy bunny's got a pile of chocolates just behind the door.

Rod, I laughed really hard at your comment. Peas in the can would be the most ghastly treat. Yuk. Give them a couple cans so they'd have to lug them around all night. I mentioned brussel sprouts because I know most people hate them, (but I secretly love them). But canned peas and creamed corn make me want to puke.

Ants on a log, Jennifer? What is that?? Yikes!!

Seema, I forgot about the raisin boxes we'd get. Those were actually acceptable by us. There was something about them that seemed so tailored for kids. Little boxes that looked like scaled-down adult boxes. Cool.
Now that I think about it, I think I'm confusing vegetable treats with the occasional boring apple we'd get. Same difference though.

  7. Then again.... I'd really have to scrutinize any "bunny chocolates" I get. Ahem.

Hahahaha, he means well. Even so, we all know which house gives out the bags of pretzels every year, and we promptly skip over that one.

    Have a great weekend!

  8. Very funny. Bella Sinclair's comment really made me giggle as well.

  9. Hey, as a kid that can of peas would have been cool compared to the UNICEF card we always got from one house. Bless their hearts now that I'm older. The "ants on a log" was hilarious!!! That's a celery stick with peanut butter topped with raisins Ted. Great Halloween toon! Thanks and Happy Hal !

  12. Haha love this one! I hated the healthy Halloween treats. Although to be fair to the bunny, he/she probably considers carrots and celery stalks as delicious treats. Is that a kid bunny peeking out of the window embarrassed at his/her parent's healthy treats?

  13. Healthy Halloween. And carrots are helpful in teeth cleaning too! ... or is it a carrot-shaped chocolate in aluminium foil?

  14. Haha, I was joking with some of my fellow candy-forgetters about giving out lentils... The orange kind are very festive, really! But fear not, I ran to the store in time to save the day.

However, I must confess I ADORE popcorn balls made with molasses, & my kids do too. Must be a genetic aberration.

  15. I took my daughters out this Halloween for Trick or Treating. I kinda miss the old days when we used to get caramel balls, candied apples, or cider to drink. We trusted the homemade goodies, because everyone knew everyone back then.

  16. There might be bunny stew in this neighbourhood later, if he keeps this up...

There is another version of ants on a log, much more appealing - malteses, 'glued' with chocolate into pretzel sticks, add a few icing dots and things for eyes and legs - mmmm - great taste combo too!
