Santa's Elvises!

This weird idea was sparked by fellow blogger Bella Sinclair. I thought it was funny when she said she accidently typed 'elvises' instead of elves in a comment she left. It only takes one word to send me off cartooning. So, thank you, Bella.

I don't know if this is the best solution for that word play, but it's what I eventually came up with, and I must like it because I spent an awful lot of time coloring it.

Hmmm.. guess I haven't been portraying Santa's Workshop too favorably in the last couple of cartoons. I've just always wondered how they do it; billions of toys made in just 365 days... and the pictures I've seen usually only portray a small group of elves doing it ALL. There has to be a few Norma Ray outbursts now and then. I wonder what the mortality rate is for an elf slave? There's always a couple goof-offs at every workplace too, who picks up the slack for them? I would like to see the elf graveyard just outside of Santa's Village. Bet it's huge.

  1. The secret to the elves' insane work schedule is methamphetamine.
And I totally tried 3d glasses on to view this cartoon. But it didn't work :(

  2. Of course I love it!!! How perfect that it was inspired by Bella who is responsible for inspiring so many in the blogs. Her mental Farts spark Fiery, Frenzied and Feverish art making. My, that is a lot of Fs! Have a Merry Christmas!

  3. Your observations are astute! "Family Guy" did a take on that idea of Santa's workshop being overworked and what not last year, and they re-ran it again this year. Aside from possibly getting sick of the same songs, I think I'd like to work in a 50's rock and roll style place.

  4. Hahaha, that is just brilliant. You should make a whole animated Christmas feature around it! I know a lot of us can relate to those elves...

And I love it when little slips of the tongue, typos & misreadings spark creativity. "Blessed are the cracked, for they let in the light." -Groucho

p.s. I thought the Elvises might be 3d too-- but even without the special effects they pop!

  5. I don't know how that 3D look came about, it just kind of evolved. But now you folks have me thinking about actually trying to make one. Maybe it will be the very first 3D panel cartoon. More sparks from comments!

  11. Aaaww Ted! I am so glad to hear about your real friends. Keep those. I am sure the fair weather friends will probably try some form of emotional blackmail too. Be strong. A man with a great sense of humor like you deserves good friends.

I took the day off today to do my Christmas shopping. It's a miracle I survive the whole experience and I can still think! :)

    Have a Merry Christmas!!!

  15. That cracked me up "billions of toys in 365 days" . . . hilarious. We always do better with music while we work. These guys a rockin' and a stressin', they should be finishing up by now or the paint is not going to dry.

  19. Actually, it's been done. Right down to the concept. Santa's 'Elves' are out sick and he needs to advertise for temps, but he mis-spells and writes 'Santa needs ELVISES'. Chaos follows! Bought the book about 5 years ago for my grandkids. It even has a 'read along' CD narrated by various TV celebs....

    1. Hiro, at this point EVERY cartoon gag has been done at least once, sometimes a lot, only because most cartoonists tend to think alike. One of my best cartoons was of caveman playing 'rock, paper, scissors'. When I checked on the internet later it was revealed that idea has been done many times. I was surprised, but I still feel mine is the best. Oh well.
