BED BUGS!

Awhile back my friend Kathy from my old high school suggested I do a cartoon about bed bugs. Can't recall if she had a confrontation with them or just a general fear like most of us. So I came up with this bit of weirdness. Maybe those poor bugs are just misunderstood by us. I mean, every creature on this earth serves some purpose, right? Can't we all get along?

  1. Haha brilliant! You've made the bed bugs more attractive that the woman...at least less scary looking!

  4. Oy! When I was 19, after I graduated from nursing college, I was sent by the government to work in the mountains. I was with my a few classmates. We lived in a house where the beds were made of bamboo slats without any matress. The bed was lined with woven mats. The first night I went to bed, I could not sleep because first of all, I was overexcited and it was very humid. I must have managed to sleep because in the morning when my friends and I woke up and our backs resembled a relief globe from the wheals as a result of bed bug bites. ICK!!! I think we lost a pint of blood - exaggeration of course. Anyway, our landlady bought new bamboo beds. New York is infested with bed bigs, even in the subway. This illustration is very telling. They get into everything!!!

    1. Yeah, I was kidding about getting along with them. They really don't seem to have a helpful purpose on this planet. Even a creepy wasp helps pollinate plants. Come on bed bugs, stop sucking our blood and do something constructive for the planet!

  5. Haha funny! - I like how you found the humor in these little suckers. But I say there is no place for bed bugs - they serve no good purpose! Unless a bug pollinates things, makes honey, or eats other bugs I say they are no good.

  6. That exterminator is one sharp-eyed fellow to have detected such sneaky intruders! It pays to call in the professionals.

Ha-- I just realized I've been scratching ever since I opened this post-- powerful suggestion there. You could probably make big cash with a sidebar ad for itch cream.

  7. Oh, I was so busy scratching I forgot to answer your question! I'm working on a large (for me) commissioned painting full of characters, à la Bosch, only cuter. ;-) It's lots of fun but taking an eternity!

  8. Super illustration again, I love it when you post a gag they brighten up my day.
On bed bugs horrible little parasites which thankfully have not encounted and no desire to, I have enough trouble defleaing the dog every few months.

  9. hahaha.. yes, I think they just want some good beds to stay warm and to have a good night sleep.. just like us. They should learn to build mini beds for themselves though. I think that can be quite cute :)

    Awesome comic as usual, sir.

  11. I am guessing God didn't divine them as 'Bed Bugs' and it wasn't until the advent of Adam & Eve x gazillion and the advent of the mattress that they discontinued their 'higher calling?' Just saying. I am thinking the Mayan calendar may be accurate. These critters seem to be populating in mass. I imagine clandestine meeting with cockroaches and black ops missions to exterminate the bumble bees...am I getting carried away here???? This post gives me the heebie jeebies. They kid and I got eaten away at the beach last year by a hoard of these camping out in the sofa bed. Their bites are the nastiest things to heal. Looking back, I think we actually did burn all the clothes we had with us on that trip.
Great illo again my friend. And thanks for the clapx2 on my latest. I feel like I am finally getting a style and technique that is uniquely my own.

  14. Holy crap that is hilarious! I can't get over their flouncing and posing in the lingerie, and the one in bed with the smart phone or whatever he's got. That is just outstanding. Probably my favorite that I've seen here, and you've had tons of great ones!
