Clown Coach

Thank you Illustration Friday, for giving me an excuse to 'hitch' a tiny clown car to a motorhome. I've been wanting to draw this one for awhile, every time I see an RV towing a small, economy car. Do those little cars actually have a name in the RV world? hmmmm...

  1. Hehehe. I love the bumper sticker. I did not realize that clowning was full of tension. The little car looks like my son's plastic little Tyke car. Hehehe. Look, they still wear their clown costumes even in retirement.

Seriously, clowing is serious business. I visited the Ringling Circus museum behing the Ringling Museum in Sarasota. I also watched a sailor circus where aspiring high school acrobats and clowns performed hoping to pursue a life in the circus. They were nothing but professional, dedicated and passionate.

  2. Nice drawing Ted...I too thought the sticker was funny...This one is a bit sad..I don't think Clowns ever retire...they don't look happy to be retired anyway..somebody obviously thought the funny little car would come in handy for a spot of fun later on.

  3. Perhaps the fate of the clowns is to make people laugh
because here I see many sad-faced clowns, but I laugh,
Oh, I know, Ridi Pagliaccio♪♫♪♫, as it says the opera...
    You're a great artist, Ted.

  4. Love the 'hitched' drawing. Don't know what the RVers call those cars, but they look like clown hemorrhoids to me!

  5. The little car is so cute!! But the clowns all look pretty miserable! Perhaps their hope was to *finally* each get their OWN vehicle once they reached retirement, instead of still having to share...

  7. Hahaha, I wonder how long til they all pile into the tiny car? This could be the reason they are looking so sad. Or it may simply be that all these clowns played sad clowns. Which means, their retirement may be full of whiskey and knife fights (from the depression of a life of sad clowning), or trampolines and magic mushrooms (as they make up for lost happy time)!

  9. Hehehehe, Honk Honk. Love this, Ted. But there's just one hitch.... No, really. There's just one hitch. Where the heck am I supposed to hitch my car?

  10. The clowns are probably sad because their pensions are all now going to the gas companies. I say they should all hop back into that cute little car, or better yet, get each of them a unicycle! Wheeeee!

  11. I'm SO rolling over here..that is too good, Ted. Thank you for the clown chuckle!! What a fabulous illustration..the RV is perfect and that teeny tiny clown car is fabulous. Such an awesome concept..you had this in your head for awhile? I do laugh when I see those little cars attached..I've seen a jeep, multiple prii (priuses?) but I have not seen a smart car attached..that would be a hoot. Sorry to make you slightly uncomfortable with my star-flying bear. : ) It was one of my favorite comments to date.

  15. HA! I thought the little car was pulling the RV, like a caravan. Maybe they should all jump in the little car and give it a go!! Love it as always :D
