Cute Criminal

It happened so fast; Joe could only see the back of the thief's head, but he'd recognize that waddle if he saw it again...

(Oops. I thought the I. F. word was 'Cute' this week. Oh well, penguins are 'Sweet' too, right?)

  1. It must be catching...getting the IF word muddled up..(its always a good excuse to use though). Cute and sweet are two words that sit in my head with a different meaning..They are sort of what I would expect gangsters to use when they were exclaiming some sort of agreement. "This cartoon is sweet Ted!"...something like that. The penguins are not cute...they are Funny and stupid looking like they should be. This made me laugh. I really wanted to see the penguins running with the fish in the next frame/cell...Its not what this cartoon needed however, just what it inspired in my mind! " You're pretty Cute Mr.Ted." (Said in a Mafia sense...not in the,I find you attractive sense...Cos I don't!!!!.) :)

    3. Hey everyone, ROD LOVES FEMALES!

btw, I think the mafia might say, "Hey, Blackie, you think you're pretty cute, don'cha? Well, you won't be smilin' when we cap ya in the head and dump your carcass in a hole in the desert."

    7. Yeah sure. Although im not sure that giving penguins access to more fish is much of a punishment...rewarding bad behaviour?

    1. haha. I think you're right, now that I look at him. It's subtle but us artists can see right thru that.

  3. Heh heh! Yeah, I agree with Rod - pretty sweet!!!! I don't know...#1 could be guilty. He looks like he's trying too hard to ignore the fish...although #5 looks like he's barely exercising self control...

    1. Mit, you really know your penguin expressions. I'm now seeing personalities I never thought were there. But I always love the expressions you put on your characters, so it makes sense.

    1. Cindy, I would like to think they are funny because I made them stupid looking, but I mean no disrespect to penguins in general. Im sure in real life, penguins probably consider themselves rather sophisticated, even as they slip and fall on the ice and knock all the other penguins over like bowling pins.

  5. Of course they're striving to appear sophisticated-- they run around in tuxes all the time! And apparently they think that being smartly dressed means they can get away with anything.

Rod's comment on the meaning of cute was interesting, since the word originally did mean clever (short for acute) & only much later came to have its "adorable" connotation. But Ted, you're cute in both senses! ;-)

    1. Oh yeah, they know we're watching them, and they know they can get away with pretty much anything being that cute. And I mean that in the more modern sense of the word, not the mafia sense of the word.

Leah, I haven't been adorable since I wore diapers, but I can live with acutely clever, as long as people don't think I'm being too cute. And I mean that in the mafia sense of the word, not the more modern sense of the word.

The one, that runs smooth is probably a linux.

PS. I have been busy and offline for a long time again and checking your older posts now. A Ted Blackman book?! I am so happy for you! I hope it will a regular publication with ISDN, so I can order it here in Europe too. I look forward to it.

    Best regards.

  8. It's gotta be #6. He's over acting trying to look calm. I noticed his left ankle is swollen which happened when he twisted his ankle while running away. Final answer. Great toon and great idea!

    1. Yeah, it's gotta be #6. His left ankle is swollen because he twisted it. It couldn't be because it's just a badly drawn foot. No way.
