The Hare Just Can't Win.

I don't know what to say about this one...
-except the gag I came up with for the Illustration Friday word, 'Protest', just wasn't funny enough to me and I didn't feel like trying to make it better right now. Perhaps I'll go back to it later, and this odd little cartoon will suffice for now.  Enjoy! -Ted

    1. Well, thank you Charles. It's not so good when my brain protests, but when it leads to a new idea then I'm all for it.

  4. Very unique and unusual take on the classic story, which is very fitting for you. Well played, my friend!

    1. Thank you, Mauricio. Someone recently mentioned to me that one of my gags had been done before by others. But in the world of cartooning there are usually many versions of the same idea since a lot of cartoonists think alike. Hopefully, my take on the more common themes is less generic and more unique, which is what I prefer. Plus I try to give my characters more soul than just nondescript players showcasing a tired line. I really hate generic cartoons, such as the type you see in cartoon stock.

  5. I like how Mr.Santoso didn't read what you wrote underneath! I agree with the others...apart from the fact I never heard of a jack rabbit start...Maybe its an American thing?

    1. I think Charles Santoso understood, and saw how the current cartoon might have evolved from my frustration with the 'Protest' cartoon. He would be right, since I drew this one up after discarding the other.
And you never heard of a Jack-Rabbit start, Rod?? Maybe I'll let Charles Santoso describe it to you. ha.

    1. Sorry Mr. Choken, if I don't translate too well. I don't know how to say jack rabbit in Dutch. :(

  9. I like this toon. I remember the saying "jack rabbit start", this is a great visual for that ol' sayin. Including the turtle makes this a classic.
